The first festival in North America dedicated exclusively to contemporary dance for young audiences.

FUDGE is a project led by the Sursaut dance company, born out of a desire to present young audiences with bold, contemporary choreographic works from the local, national, and international scene.

The festival aims to get the community moving to the rhythm of dance by offering a rich and diverse program that brings together schools, children, and their families around a unique cultural event.

This biennial event is intended to be a highlight and a must-see for dance in Canada, as well as a structuring initiative for the development of the community. Its location in Sherbrooke contributes to the decentralization of arts and culture and promotes the vitality of the discipline throughout Quebec.

FUDGE is the enthusiasm of childhood reflected in a little pleasure to be savored!

Mission and values

FUDGE aims to highlight the unique nature of contemporary dance for young audiences by providing a platform for it to flourish. The event seeks to promote the circulation of international shows and networking between artists from different backgrounds, with a view to exchange and sharing. Dance thus becomes a meeting point between cultures, a language common to all nations.

We would like to emphasize that the lands on which the festival’s activities take place are part of the traditional unceded territory of the Abenaki and Wabanaki Confederacy.

Environmental Responsibility

The festival’s environmental policy was born out of a shared desire among team members to reduce the ecological footprint of this international event. It is intended as a starting point for putting our values into action, with an eye toward our impact on future generations. Through this serious commitment, the Sursaut dance company hopes to be a source of inspiration for its community.

FUDGE is an event aimed at young audiences, and the well-being of children is at the heart of our actions.

Accessibility, equity, and inclusion

In order to democratize access to dance and promote cultural participation for all, the team has set itself the task of implementing various initiatives to overcome existing barriers, whether physical, geographical, economic, or cultural.

A word from the artistic director

It was in 1996 that the idea of setting up an international dance festival for young people and families first came to us. After many years of artistic practice and numerous encounters with young people, this idea evolved into a concrete desire to create an event entirely dedicated to dance for young audiences in order to raise the profile of this discipline.

FUDGE is the result of the company’s deep commitment to children and their families. Its fun acronym reflects its accessible and inclusive programming. FUDGE will connect artists and young audiences through an extraordinary cultural experience.

After 35 years as the company’s artistic director and on the eve of passing the torch, FUDGE will be my legacy to the discipline of creative dance for young audiences.
