  • 20 November 2018 - Intensive Workshop with Carol Prieur

    The company is thrilled to welcome dancer and teacher Carol Prieur for a workshop at the Centre des arts de la scène Jean-Besré on November 25th and 26th. A sensory movement workshop focused on finding each dancer’s individual voice as vehicles for communication, where the body’s possibilities will be explored by diving into the body’s landscapes, using movement as a language of individual expression and communication. A dancer with the Marie Chouinard Company since 23 years, Carol Prieur is a figurehead in contemporary dance in Quebec.   • 13 November 2018 - Acuna nominated for the CALQ-Work of the Year Award in the Eastern Townships

    Choreographer and dancer Amandine Garrido Gonzalez is pictured here among the three finalists for the CALQ-Work of the Year Award in the Eastern Townships for Acuna, created in 2017 and produced by the Sursaut Dance Company. We are very proud of this nomination, which confirms the quality of this dance creation for very young children. Congratulations, Amandine!

     

  • 2 October 2018 - Essaim | A key project for up and coming artists

    The Sursaut Dance Company is proud to present a brand new project, Essaimwhich will be presented on November 9th and 10th at Centennial Theatre in Sherbrooke. A blend of contemporary dance, circus arts, theatrical movement and baroque dance, five choreographers invite us to discover their worlds through a collection of short choreographies, danced as solos or duos. With Essaim, the company wanted to bring together, support and acknowledge the region’s up-and-coming artists who each have a unique creative process, creating a show that is fresh, modern and diverse.

  • 4 September 2018 - New! Contemporary Dance Classes for Adolescents

    New this year, the Sursaut Dance Company is offering contemporary dance classes for adolescents with Stéphanie Brochard, who has danced for the company for the past 10 years. These classes will offer a solid foundation in contemporary dance to youth from 12 years and up, all the while encouraging each participant to develop their own personal approach to movement.

    September 12th to December 5th, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

  • 1 September 2018 - Back from a Fourth Tour in China!

    The last days of August also brought to a close the fourth Chinese tour for the Sursaut Dance Company. 9 cities, 11 shows, 7 dancers and one technical director, one month travelling throughout the country, it was quite a feat! A special newsletter entirely dedicated to this tour, full of anecdotes and wonderful images will provide a glimpse into the reality of the team’s 4 weeks on the other side of the planet!

  • 4 July 2018 - Sursaut’s creations continue to inspire and intrigue Chinese audiences

    From July 31st to August 29th the Sursaut Dance Company will be travelling through China with the production At nightfall. This being the production’s third tour in the Middle Kingdom, the company can attest, with growing pride, that Chinese audiences’ appreciation for this choreographic work is as strong as ever.

  • 7 May 2018 - Training Classes with Gaby Agis

    From May 14th to 18th and 22nd to 25th, Gaby Agis, a choreographer, teacher and dancer based in London UK, will be teaching classes based on the Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT). The SRT is a pioneering approach to dance, movement and the creative process that has evolved from the simple principle that when we are releasing physicals tension, we can move with greater freedom, power and articulation.

  • 18 April 2018 - Training Classes with Laura Toma

    From April 23rd to 27th 2018, Laura Toma, one of the only two certified Gaga instructors in Canada, will be offering a class based on this unique teaching method developped by Ohad Naharin.

    Gaga is a movement language that is the daily training of Batsheva Dance Company. The language of Gaga originated from the belief in the healing, dynamic, ever-changing power of movement.

  • 28 March 2018 - ACUNA in Sherbrooke

    Acuna is the Sursaut Dance Company’s very first creation destined specifically for very young children (from 18 months of age). It will be presented on April 15th at 10:30 a.m. at the Centre de arts de la scène Jean-Besré.

    This choreographic work, a marriage of dance and circus arts will be presented as a workshop-performance.

  • 21 March 2018 - Registration is open for the summer dance camp

     

    From July 2nd to 6th, the thirteenth edition of Sursaut’s summer dance day camp will once again offer children from 6 years of age and up the opportunity to spend a week discovering the world of contemporary dance. Accompanied by professional artists in a playful and exploratory atmosphere, participants will be introduced to different approaches to movement and will acquire a variety of tools that will inspire their own choreographic creations. In this same creative spirit and always with a movement-oriented approach, participants will also work on a visual arts project throughout the week. New this year, a workshop exploring the creation of a sound track will be part of the week’s activities. No previous dance experience is necessary to get the most out of this unique summer day camp.
