It is with much emotion that the Sursaut Dance Company is announcing the cancellation of the second edition of FUDGE – Festival Universel de Danse Géniale pour Enfants originally scheduled to be held from May 22-26, 2024.

An event unique in its’ genre, FUDGE is the first festival in North America dedicated exclusively to the presentation of contemporary dance for young audiences. With the help and support of numerous partners, a highly successful first edition was held in June 2022.

As of the fall of 2022, our whole team was at work preparing the next edition. The programming committee applied itself to the task of creating a rich and diversified offer, with productions in theatres,
performances outdoors, and workshops and activities highlighting the richness of the local, national, and international scene.

Unfortunately, it must be said that we encountered some major difficulties concerning the financing of the festival that created a budgetary gap impossible to fill in spite of all our commitment and all of our efforts. Faced with this reality, we took the very difficult decision to cancel the second edition of FUDGE. To persist would have meant compromising the artistic quality of our programming and risking the financial health of Sursaut.

We would like however, to express our gratitude to all those who have supported the FUDGE festival until now: all our public and private partners, the audience, the media, our pairs and many others, who have been precious allies in this adventure.

Despite this disappointment, we remain convinced of the universal power of dance to unite communities, and we are determined to explore new avenues to find solutions in order to be able to present a future edition of FUDGE under conditions that live up to our aspirations.
